Dave Dick is a long-time musician, and Luthier from Central Massachusetts. He began playing guitar as a young child, took up five-string banjo as a teenager, then worked professionally for over 20 years in the Bluegrass music scene. Dave has performed across the US and abroad, and recorded several albums with artists throughout the Northeast. He has become very well known for his skills on the five-string banjo, guitar and mandolin. Dave began doing repairs on guitars in the late 1980's, then worked for 24 years as the repairman at Union Music, located in Worcester, MA. He left Union Music in 2016 to open his own business, D String Guitar Repair, which is in beautiful town of Sturbridge, MA.
After a successful career performing, Dave shifted his attention to furthering his Lutherie and business skills. D String Guitar Repair brings together both the music and repair sides of Dave's experience, as he has a wide range of knowledge of the music industry, from an artist's perspective as well as a technician's. This combination helps Dave be able to communicate well with other musicians and have an ability to serve a wide variety of players. Being an advanced player, having touring experience, and a solid understanding of how stringed instruments are built and how they function, allows Dave to accurately diagnose problems, and find the correct solutions.
These days, Dave still plays a lot of music, but more as a hobby than a career. D String Guitar Repair is his full-time focus and he plans to develop it into the region's best place for instrument service and parts.
